Voice and Style

For this section, I decided to choose my Persuasive Writing Campaign from Persuasive Writing and my Explanation Project from Technical Writing.

In both documents I chose for this section, you can see and hear the passion in my writing. I was able to choose my topic for both projects, which allowed the passion in my voice to come out. For my Persuasive Writing Campaign, I wrote a campaign to my professor on how I was going to persuade homeschooling parents to participate in professional development. I have a lot of passion for homeschool education, and education in general. This passion comes through in my Persuasive Writing Campaign because I speak highly of homeschool education and professional development. I used vocabulary and language that homeschooling parents would be familiar with, and even used sources that are written by homeschooling families.

The Explanation Project required me to create a presentation that taught or explained a specific software that would be beneficial in my future career. I chose to explain the audio editing software, Audacity. My audience for the presentation are future program leaders at SELECT Programs. In the notes section of my presentation you can see what I would say if I were giving the presentation. My voice in my writing is passionate and my tone is serious. You can tell that I am an administrator that wants to inspire new employees to use the software that we provide because it is beneficial for our organization and our students.

I have a unique style when it comes to my writing because even though I am passionate, I am professional. This sense of professionalism makes me a credible writer to my audience. By citing sources that are appropriate to the content I am writing about or drawing from my own experiences, I establish credibility with my audience. I also make my writing very conversational. I make my audience ask questions and then provide the answers later in the text. I also incorporate a lot of lists into my writing. I think this style makes me sound more real, so my audience knows that I am a real person.

I am able to adapt my voice and style based on my audience or purpose for writing. In both documents that I provided demonstrating my skills you can see my a shift in my voice from a passionate professional writing a presentation for her staff to a passionate student writing an academic paper about a topic that truly interests her.
